The artist has donated the entirety of his £25k award winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

He was given the prize on 16 October as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted venues that were confronting possible closure due to issues arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and gear that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The idea that funds from shows in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his honor funds to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, lead singer Cocker declared that the band would contribute their cash to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the local youth club that supported their act, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients they contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in the city were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the venues.
